Who We Are
The United Nations has
supported the people and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago for more than 50
years. Over that period, the United Nations has offered aid to the country
through development assistance, ensuring that no one is left behind as outlined
in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and striving towards achieving
the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
What We Do
Relying on its
comparative advantages, the UN funds, programmes and agencies bring expertise
and work with communities on a wide range of development issues faced by the
region such as good governance, food security, poverty reduction, communicable
and non-communicable diseases, climate change, environmental protection, gender
equality and equity, and economic growth.

An Inclusive Equitable and Prosperous Trinidad and Tobago
The priority area An Inclusive, Equitable and Prosperous Trinidad and Tobago, builds on the core SDG concept of equitable development for all “leaving no one behind” as a prerequisite for prosperous and sustainable societies. This includes focusing on areas such as quality education, reduced inequalities for all, including persons with disabilities and increasing access to social protection systems.

A Healthy Trinidad and Tobago
The priority area A Healthy Trinidad and Tobago responds to the concern that health and nutrition are increasingly affecting the lives of the people in Trinidad and Tobago. Some of the areas of focus include: universal access to quality health care services and systems, increasing maternal and child care services, increasing food safety, developing national plans to prevent and control NCDs.

A Safe, Just and Cohesive Trinidad and Tobago
The priority area A Safe, Just and Cohesive Trinidad and Tobago acknowledges that insufficient citizen security restricts the people of Trinidad and Tobago to live full and productive lives. This has an impact especially on women, youth and other vulnerable groups. Focus areas include: combating Gender-Based Violence and increasing access to justice and protection for all.

A Sustainable and Resilient Trinidad and Tobago
The priority area A Sustainable and Resilient Trinidad and Tobago focuses on addressing the effects of climate change on livelihoods, especially those who are most vulnerable. Other focus areas include: increasing universal access to clean and sustainable energy and building Disaster Risk Reduction.
